Kaleidoscope

We started the year of talking about Father Stanley Rother. We discussed his life and how someone becomes a saint.  We also talked about how we are all called to be saints.

We have done some mapping skills on Guatemala (Where Father Rother was a priest for 12 years). We have talked about the legend of the Guatemalan worry doll and are in the process of making our own.
Creative Living
We are finishing up our Rosary today. I will have them blessed at mass on Friday.  Father Sean came to our class last week to talk about the history of the rosary. He had some amazing stories about some of the miracles of the rosary.  We are getting ready to start our magazine bowls!

Study Skills

Study Skills:

Welcome back to school!  In Study Skills we have been studying our vocabulary words together as a class. I am hoping to see an improvement in all of their vocabulary tests!! I have also started reading to the 6th Grade at the end of each class.  My hope is to spark more interest in reading!  We just started  The One and Only Ivan  and they really seem to be enjoying it!

In Kaleidoscope we are reading The Trumpet of the Swans  by E. B. White. We have made paper plate swans, done mapping activities about Canada (that is where the story takes place) and talked about eggs and the nest.  We used an egg to talk about Newton's first law of motion. Ask your child to ask you about this awesome experiment!!!!!!!!

We hit the pie plate with a sideway swipe and the egg dropped into the water. Newton's law of motion said it would land in the cup of water, and thankfully Newton was right. It worked and I didn't have to clean up raw egg!!!
